Photographing the square

The square, the monument and the bay offer different framings depending on the light of the day.

Light and framing

The morning light and the light of the late afternoon usually give the best results over the bay. The central monument and the old Intendencia offer a clear axis to compose around.

From the port front, facing Muelle Prat, you get wide views of the ensemble and the port.

The monument, the façade of the old Intendencia and the port front form a natural photographic axis. Changing position and height helps you vary the framing without moving far from the centre of the square. Framings that include the monument with the port in the background also work well. It is worth moving your feet rather than relying on the zoom alone.

Respect and context

The square is a civic space with daily activity and, at times, ceremonies. It is worth not interrupting official events and asking permission when there are identifiable people in the frame.

During the works, some stretches may be closed or have work elements: respect the signs and do not cross restricted areas.

If the aim is to photograph the port, the edge of Muelle Prat offers wide views of the bay. It is worth respecting the areas marked off by works and not entering reserved spaces. If you photograph people, asking permission is the right thing to do, especially in such a busy space. At ceremonies, it is best to observe without interfering.
