Muelle Prat y embarcaciones en el puerto de Valparaíso

Arrival

How to get there from the bus terminal

If you arrive by intercity bus, the square is a short trip from the terminal. These are the usual options.

By taxi or car

The journey between the bus terminal and Plaza Sotomayor is short within the plan of the city. Chile Travel estimates approximately 10 to 15 minutes by taxi or private car, an indicative range that depends on traffic and ongoing works.

No specific fare has been verified: it is worth asking the price before getting in or using an app.

Depending on the time of day, the journey between the terminal and the plan may cross avenues with heavier traffic. If you are travelling with luggage, asking the driver to drop you on the side of the square you prefer — by the monument or by the pier — shortens the distance you cover on foot. The ten to fifteen minute range corresponds to a journey with light traffic; at peak times it can run longer. If your luggage is heavy or the group is large, it is worth allowing extra margin before fixing an arrival time.

By urban transport

Urban buses and trolleybuses run through the plan of Valparaíso and connect the terminal area with the axis of the Barrio Puerto. The Estación Puerto, next to the square, is part of the Valparaíso–Limache commuter train.

If you travel with luggage, check the distance between the stop and the square before deciding; the pavements and slopes of the plan are not always comfortable with suitcases.

The network of the plan links the terminal area with the axis of the port, so it is enough to identify the stop closest to the square before getting on. As routes can change, it is worth confirming the destination at the stop or with the driver. It is worth checking whether the stop closest to the square lies in the same direction of travel, so as not to cross the port axis with suitcases. If in doubt, the train to Estación Puerto is usually a more direct alternative.
